Reflections on 2024
2024 has been an exhilarating year for all of us at Red Thinking. It was a year where we reached new heights in process, execution, and everything in between. We welcomed new faces, celebrated the longevity and dedication of others with great fanfare, and took every chance to celebrate our wins together. And yes, I celebrated a lot this year because sometimes giving yourself a high five is okay, too. We did it. I did it, too.
When I’m happiest, that energy is contagious, and this year has been filled with moments that reminded me of our shared gratitude, humility, and the incredible impact of a happy, driven team. I say it often: I believe I’m only as strong as the people around me, and those closest to me know how deeply my personal and professional lanes are intertwined. I set lofty goals for Red Thinking and myself. I want each of us to honestly believe that we are one of the companies with the best work-life balance in the area while also taking work hard and playing hard seriously. Both can be true, and I’m ok with that.
At the top, I am anything but alone. Relationship building at work can go far beyond client wins. I’m surrounded by an awesome team of digital marketing experts, designers who deliver, account executives who can almost run circles around me, close friends, mentors, family, and a network of supporters in and around the DC area. Their encouragement (and sarcastic wit from many — “Be the boss, they said…”) keeps me motivated. It keeps us motivated. 2024 has been a year of professional and personal happiness, which is reflected in Red Thinking’s success. We did it together. I couldn’t be more grateful.
The Journey That Got Us Here
2023 wasn’t my favorite year for a lot of reasons. There, I said it. By the time 2024 rolled around, I had already done the work, reflecting on the journey so far, identifying the fixable obstacles we’d faced, and getting clear on what I wanted for the future. The challenges of the past year, from navigating client demands to refining internal processes and roles, weren’t easy. But on the other side of every hurdle, I stopped, let myself learn, and found valuable lessons that pushed me to adapt, lead, and grow more robust, and, therefore, my team.
When 2024 arrived, I was ready. And everyone around me could feel it. “Be the boss,” I’ve heard that phrase since I was young. The challenge wasn’t stepping into the role; it was figuring out how to pivot and lead instead of simply managing the situation. My team already has their managers; they didn’t need more of the same. We needed clarity and separation of roles so I could guide us forward.
So, I stepped up and elevated my role throughout this year. Not to make a statement but because my team needed me to lead. And they were right to expect that of me. That’s why I thrive in this role, not for the title or recognition but because of the responsibility I own and owe to the incredible team that makes everything possible.
My experiences have pushed me to expand my perspective, both mentally and emotionally. I developed greater emotional intelligence. I learned the value of taking a mental health day and not just suggesting everyone else take one. I cultivated a renewed sense of resilience. Each of these mindset shifts prepared me for and got me through a new year.
And, as we near the end of 2024, I have a smile on my face as I write this. Life is good. The whole journey is worth it. Hurdles and all.
A Moment to Say Thank You
Relationships genuinely matter, and I take immense pride in the connections my team and I have nurtured year after year. I’ve known so many of my clients for decades. That shared history speaks to the work that we do, as well as the pride we have in what they’re accomplishing.
Of course, hearing this reflected to us is always a moment to be humble and appreciative of the people around us. It’s the heartfelt thank-yous and enthusiastic acknowledgments, like
“You blew the design campaign out of the water!” or “I knew you guys would crush this!” or “Your team’s digital expertise is incomparable to others in your market.” Each of these moments reinforces the value we bring to our clients.
“You guys run one hell of a ship; it’s fun to observe it and be a part of the energy.” I’m lucky to be surrounded by a team whose energy and determination to deliver incredible digital & branding services is unparalleled.
These moments of recognition remind us that we are anything but typical; we are a branding and digital firm that goes above and beyond, thinking creatively and thriving in ways that set us apart from conventional ad agencies. We are genuinely proud of the work we deliver, and the gratitude we receive in return fuels our passion. You can never get enough thanks when you’re working this hard and having fun while doing it, and I cherish every acknowledgment that underscores our commitment to excellence and innovation.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As the business owner, I’m not in the trenches for every photo shoot or project, but I’m deeply involved where it matters most. I attend meetings regularly, contribute to strategic conversations, and stay connected with my team, who constantly inspire me with their dedication and creativity. Swinging by a photo shoot or catching up on their progress fuels my excitement; I love seeing them thrive.
Looking ahead to 2025, I’m already planning big. Content days with creative clients are a highlight; let’s be honest, no one’s complaining about spending a day capturing food, cocktails, mocktails, animals, and the vibrant energy that surrounds us. I’m eager to see rebrands and website overhauls come to life, to spend time brainstorming with the team, and to set the bar higher.
And I’m bringing my 2024 attitude with me: we’re celebrating the wins, forging meaningful relationships, and building something we can continue to be proud of at work and in life. This journey is about growth, passion, and purpose, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.
